What is Musical Theatre?

Musical Theatre is a mixture of Singing, Acting & Dancing. At Feet Beats Academy we use a song from a musical or musical/movie and re create it using our own flare! The children get a real chance to shine, they get the chance to have solo part if they want or be part of chorus. We have a singing coach in once a month to have a session solely on Vocals!

The Children are taught about stage presence, Facial expressions, voice projection. They learn to listen to what the vocals are saying & to act accordingly. We watch & interpret body language to match the character.

We also like to get the children to help with make the stage props & set with various workshops. This is a great way to get the children working together & team building, which is vital in a performance. It makes the routine look more authentic.

Over the years we have performed excerpts from the likes of: Annie, Oliver, High School Musical, Cats, Trolls, Aladdin, Grease, Hairspray, Chicargo, 42nd Street, Matilda, The Greatest showman.

The children have learnt Jazz, Tap, Ballet, contemporary, Rock ’n’ Roll dance styles.

Musical Theatre routines take a lot longer to learn than just dance routines due to the sheer detail that goes into them. We tend to spend about 6-9 months on each routine.

We recently took part in a local dance schools performance with 10 other schools & I had so many messages from parents from other dance schools, congratulating us on our incredible performance. Saying how amazing the children were!

We currently have 2 Musical Theatre groups a junior under 11’s & senior over 11’s group. We would eventually like to run a stage school on Saturday mornings.

This term the junior students are working on a song from Matilda.

The seniors are working on a song from ‘Chicago’ & ‘In to the woods’

We have a couple of spaces left in each age group.
