EXAMS

Our pupils follow the IDTA dance syllabus and take graded IDTA exams. These exams provide them with the sense of achievement that all children and young adults alike need in their lives to help them progress and grow, not only in their ability but also in their confidence.

Dance exams have changed a lot over the years and all of our IDTA examiners are extremely friendly and encouraging to the children when taking exams. We live in a society today where progression is key for children to move forward and push themselves to the next level of their ability. The enjoyment that our pupils get from receiving their exam results is priceless and they are always wanting to progress to the next level and achieve more.

The IDTA has developed a range of examinations suitable for all ages and levels of experience and achievement.

Professional teaching examinations are available in eight core subjects, divided into three branches. Firstly, the Ballroom Branch which includes: Ballroom, Latin and Classical Sequence, secondly, the Freestyle Branch and finally, the four core subjects of Ballet, Tap, Modern Jazz and Theatre Craft are classified as Theatre Branch subjects.

The Association offers a wide variety of tests and awards for amateur / social dancers including Rosettes, Stardance Awards, Pre-juvenile Groups Awards, Preparatory and Primary Grades; plus a wide range of medal tests in many genres, from one dance through Bronze, Silver and Gold medals and advancing through the Bars, Stars and  President’s Awards to the International Supreme Award. For the medal tests and higher awards, the dances are choreographed by the teacher and build in length and complexity. The Association also offers social dance awards, and team awards.

At Feet Beats Academy we start the children in the following exams:

  • Freestyle, Street, Musical Theatre & Cheerleading - Rosettes Awards (age 3-8yrs) - 12 rosettes in the series (pass/fail grade)

  • Freestyle, Street, Musical Theatre & Cheerleading - Star dance Awards ( age 6-10yrs) - 12 Star’s in the series (pass/fail grade)

We then move on to medal tests. These are harder & the students get a detailed report with targets & comments from the examiner.

The attainment bands are:

U - Unsuccessful - less that 65%

P - Pass - 65 - 74%

C - Commended - 75 - 80%

HC - Highly Commended - 85 - 89%

H - Honours - 90% and above

  • Cheerleading, Musical Theatre, Street & Freestyle One dance award ( 10yrs +) - 5 exams in the series

We will book exams for the children when we have had a term back in the studio, to ensure they are back to standard I am happy with, before I book a Exam session.
